Important information on club rides The power of the bicycle is becoming clearer than ever, and we’d like to thank you heeding our message to stop all club activity, and for continuing to follow Government guidance. As a reminder of what that Government guidance is, right now we should only ride on our own, or with people we live with, keeping two metres apart from anyone we meet, and stopping and waiting for people to pass when necessary. While you should only use your bike to exercise once a day, you can also use it to shop for basic necessities, provide care or help somebody vulnerable, and travel to or from essential work. As the days continue, we must remember that we cannot and must not take this privilege to cycle for granted. Keep riding responsibly, take care, and we will get through this together. Virtual club tools while indoors We know it can be difficult for clubs to operate in these difficult times, which is why we thought it would be a great idea to set up virtual rides, coffee stops, club nights and committee meetings with those who you usually ride with! £20 million Sport England package to help clubs and community sport organisations through coronavirus Sport England is making up to £195 million of funding available to help the sport and physical activity sector cope with the short and long-term impact of the pandemic. The package includes the £20 million Community Emergency Fund, which will be opened immediately for clubs and community organisations in England. Would you know what to do if a club mate suffered a cardiac arrest? The survival rate in the UK from a person going into cardiac arrest is just 7%, but 40% in other countries. Heart Angels want to improve that – lives depend on it. Heart Angels is a charity specialising in CPR education and defibrillator use offering great discounts for affiliated clubs. Check your DBS certificate The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) provides access to police records so that informed decisions can be made about the suitability of volunteers. Due to the current measures that have been put in place as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the Government have agreed temporary changes to ID checking guidelines to complete DBS checks. If you require a member of British Cycling staff to verify your identity then you can make this clear on your application and we will contact you to discuss how this can be completed via video link. If you are in a role volunteering with children and think that you need a DBS check or it has been more than three years since you last obtained your DBS certificate, click the link below.
